Welcome to ByteRot, a home for retro PCs and consoles: operating systems, ROMs, lost drivers, SDKs, games, utilities and documentation for machines the rest of the world forgot. If it ran on a beige box, a bread bin, a cartridge slot or a Mac with a handle, it belongs here.

• The FTP at ftp.byterot.net is the archive, and it grows because people like you contribute: that driver disk in the drawer, the SDK nobody else kept, a clean dump of a cartridge.
• Articles and How-Tos cover history, hardware, and getting old things working again.
• IRC is #retro on irc.fxnet.org, for modern clients (port 6697, SSL) and vintage ones (port 6667, plain).

Accounts are free: join the channel, identify with NickServ and type !req. See Connect for the details.

We're looking for writers. Got a story about the machine you grew up on, a fix for a driver nobody remembers, or a guide to getting some odd bit of hardware going again? Publish it here as an article or a how-to.

You don't need to be a pro, just someone who knows a thing and wants to share it. Write it in plain text and send it our way. Your name goes on it. See how to submit or say hi in #retro.
